Filippo Mandelli, MD | Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (Board-Certified FMH), Interdisciplinary Board Certification in Spine Surgery
Filippo Mandelli completed his medical degree in Human Medicine in Milan before moving to Switzerland to pursue his advanced postgraduate residency and earn his board certification. Early in his clinical training, he developed a dedicated focus on spine surgery, with a particular specialization in the operative correction of adult scoliosis.
Throughout his surgical residency, Dr. Mandelli practiced at several prominent medical centers across Switzerland, including regional hospitals in Bellinzona, Lugano, Zurich, and Basel. In 2018, he was appointed Attending Spine Surgeon at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB) and subsequently stepped into the role of Attending Spine Surgeon at the University Hospital Basel (USB).

From 2021 to 2022, Dr. Mandelli completed an intensive, one-year clinical fellowship at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan—the premier center for spine surgery in Italy. Under the mentorship of Dr. Berjano and Prof. Lamartina, he advanced his expertise in treating complex adult spinal deformities and mastering minimally invasive lateral approach spine surgeries.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Mandelli actively conducts academic research in the field of cervical spinal stenosis. His scientific investigations focus heavily on the functional limitations experienced by patients with age-related narrowing of the cervical spinal canal. In this capacity, he continues to collaborate on an active research project at the University Hospital Basel.

In March 2026, Dr. Mandelli was appointed Chief of Spine Surgery at Spital Zollikerberg and Head of the Dr. Wälchli Spine Practice. Effective May 1, 2026, he has also assumed Executive Medical Leadership across all Prodorso operations.
