Filippo Mandelli

Dr. Filippo Mandelli completed his medical degree in Milan before moving to Switzerland to pursue his advanced postgraduate residency and earn his board certification. Early in his clinical training, he developed a dedicated focus on spine surgery, with a particular specialization in the operative correction of adult scoliosis.
Throughout his surgical residency, Dr. Mandelli practiced at several prominent medical centers across Switzerland, including at several hospitals across Switzerland, including in Bellinzona, Lugano, Zurich, and Basel. In 2018, he was appointed Attending Spine Surgeon at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB) and subsequently became Attending Spine Surgeon at the University Hospital Basel (USB).

From 2021 to 2022, Dr. Mandelli completed an intensive, one-year clinical fellowship at the Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan, one of Italy's leading centers for spine surgery. Under the mentorship of Dr. Berjano and Prof. Lamartina, he deepened his expertise in the treatment of complex adult spinal deformities and in minimally invasive lateral-approach spine surgery.

His research focuses on the functional limitations experienced by patients with age-related narrowing of the cervical spinal canal (cervical spinal stenosis). He continues to collaborate on ongoing research at the University Hospital Basel.

In March 2026, Dr. Mandelli was appointed Chief of Spine Surgery at Spital Zollikerberg and Head of the affiliated Wälchli Spine Practice. Since May 2026, he has also served as Medical Director of Prodorso.
